Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Sarmela Sunder is revealing a straightforward technique to make Botox injections last more.
In a TikTok that has attracted nearly 17,000 views since March, Sunder touts the advantages of the mineral zinc.
“In the event you love the results of Botox and you wish it to last more, consider taking a zinc complement,” Sunder said within the clip.
“There’s a study that shows that taking a zinc complement can lengthen the duration of the Botox effects,” she continued. “Take about 15 milligrams a day and see if that helps.”
Sunder noted to The Post Monday that some studies have shown that by taking zinc, Botox can last as long as 20% to 30% longer “than in a state of zinc depletion.”
Nevertheless, she identified that these results can vary by person.
Botox — the cosmetic type of the botulinum toxin — is an injection that temporarily relaxes the muscles within the face, in keeping with the Mayo Clinic.
Typically, injections last three to 4 months on their very own.
“For patients that actually feel that Botox just lasts weeks and so they don’t wish to increase the dose, I do have patients do this,” Sunder told The Post in an email. “It really works higher on some patients than on others.”
“The one guaranteed technique to increase longevity of Botox (or similar neuromodulators) is to extend the dose that’s injected,” she added.
In a follow-up video, Sunder explained why zinc works to assist maintain the outcomes of a Botox injection, highlighting that the mineral interacts with a certain protein within the cosmetic liquid.
“Principally, zinc is essential for the activity of a component of the Botox protein,” Sunder said. “It plays a job and affects how the toxin binds to its goal relatively soon after it’s injected.”
The plastic surgeon said that the “stronger the attachment of the protein,” the longer the Botox and its wrinkle-free effects last.
It’s vital to start out taking zinc supplements before a Botox appointment, Sunder noted.
“The activity that’s based on zinc is lost inside hours after injection,” she said. “And since each Botox molecule requires a zinc molecule with the intention to be effective, you desire to make sure that you will have enough zinc to make it effective and last so long as possible.”
But, like anything, there will be some unintended effects.
“Zinc will be irritating to some people’s gastrointestinal system, so if someone is already vulnerable to GI issues or has issues with nausea, I warn them about that side effect,” Sunder told The Post.
And for many who don’t love the results of Botox on their faces, the TikTok doc also has some suggestions for reversing its effects.
She recommends exercising more, as there was evidence that having the next metabolic rate could make the results of Botox wear off more quickly, in addition to increasing blood flow to the world injected.
She advises using the back of an electrical toothbrush on the world to extend the blood flow.
