They’re breaking out the Dom Perignon at 3 E. 52nd Street. La Grenouille, the romantic, last surviving outpost of the town’s old-school French-cuisine era, reopened on Friday following a four-and-a-half months shutdown as a result of a gas leak.
The Post reported back on Sept. 27 that the famous frog was shuttered in June by Con Ed when recent gas meters detected a leak. Con Ed, the FDNY, the Department of Buildings and restaurateur Philippe Masson subsequently pointed fingers at one another to elucidate the long delay in reopening.
An insider credited our coverage for helping to interrupt the logjam. Longtime regulars are thrilled.
We’re pleased, too, that the nice Midtown institution is back to live one other day.
