Six Royal Air Force fighter jets have flown to Finland and Sweden for joint training exercises, the UK government has said.
The exercise also follows the countries’ applications to join Nato following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Two cutting-edge F-35 jets are among the aircraft taking part.
Sweden’s defence minister said the training would “strengthen our ability to operate together in response to a crisis in our neighbourhood”.

He is thinking about Gripen C and not the new Gripen E. It was unfortunate that they did not change the name when the changes were so big. You can say that this or that fighter is better than the other but the F35 and Gripen are 2 very different fighters built for different reasons and needs. Anyway having different fighter jet platforms in NATO is great, that makes it harder for the enemy to counter them and the training will be better for everyone. For example, GB has one older Gripen C they use for training.
Sweden and GB are also partners in the Tempest sixth-generation fighter program.

Sorry, but as a Swede I can tell this "expert" knows very little about the Gripen and the intentions of the Swedish military. The latest Gripen is very much in line with the latest generation aircraft, and we are not considering buying F35s at all. The Swedish Gripen even had combat exercises against Norwegian F35s and the Gripen won 5-0, 5-1, 5-0.
