The Mitchells are talking things out.
After Garrett Mitchell hit a walk-off bomb against Adam Ottavino to provide the Brewers a 7-6 win over the Mets and a sweep of the three-game series on Wednesday afternoon in Milwaukee, the 24-year-old presented an unconventional reason for his sweet swing.
“When my wife doesn’t show as much as the games, often something good happens,” Mitchell told Bally Sports Wisconsin after the sport.
“Going into that at-bat I used to be like, well, she’s not here, so I would as well do something fun!”
After the video circulated on social media, his wife, 24-year-old Haley Cruse Mitchell, a former college softball star, had amusing in regards to the whole thing.
“You won’t say it to my face tho,” she responded on Twitter.
She sent a separate tweet with a photograph of a disguise from the movie “Mean Girls,” through which she joked, “Me attempting to sneak into Am Fam Field on Friday after my husband said he plays higher once I’m not there on live television.”
Garrett Mitchell was called as much as the Brewers last August, and is a component of a youth movement on the team that also includes Owen Miller, Brice Turang and Joey Wiemer, who’ve all helped propel Milwaukee to a 5-1 start.
Haley Cruse Mitchell played softball at Oregon where she twice appeared within the Women’s College World Series and in 2021 was first-team all Pac-12.
After the sport Wednesday, Garrett Mitchell was matter-of-fact in regards to the pitch from Ottavino that he drilled for a walk-off homer.
“He left it over the plate and gave me a probability to hit it,” Mitchell said.

Ottavino, meanwhile, expressed optimism for the longer term despite the Mets 3-4 start.
“You might be all the time going to be frustrated – no person likes to lose whether it’s April or August or whatever,” the pitcher said after the sport. “But overall it’s still early obviously and we have now got quite a lot of baseball to play and we have now got to start out putting our greatest foot forward here.”
