Recent Jersey is the worst state to drive in, because it has the very best road congestion nationwide and the second-worst road quality, a recent study by MoneyGeek finds.
Researchers considered traffic, transportation costs, safety, road infrastructure and weather in its rankings, released last month.
Recent York fared barely higher than the Garden State, earning the title of the sixteenth worst state to drive in.
Nebraska was named the very best state, because of the bottom vehicle-related costs nationwide and its infrastructure quality.
MoneyGeek crunched data from the Federal Highway Administration, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, US Census Bureau, FBI and more to plan its lists.
Researchers checked out five aspects:
- Cost: Gas prices per gallon, annual automobile maintenance costs and annual toll expenses per vehicle comprise this category, in addition to average annual premiums from the most cost effective full coverage auto insurance options available in each state.
- Congestion: Aspects include average morning commute times and vehicle miles traveled per lane mile, which measures what number of vehicles are using a specific length of road over a certain time period.
- Safety: MoneyGeek analyzed fatal crashes per 100,000 people and automobile thefts per 100,000 vehicles.
- Infrastructure: This category considers the proportion of roads and bridges which can be in acceptable condition in each state.
- Weather: MoneyGeek analyzed fatal automobile crashes per 100,000 people in snowy and rainy conditions.
