Could robot ushers be “higher than the actual thing”?
The Sphere, Madison Square Garden Entertainment’s latest 20,000-person venue in Las Vegas, is ready to welcome U2 to its stage on Sept. 29, but guests won’t be greeted by a human.
Aura, “the world’s most humanoid robot,” and 4 clones will turn into a guest-greeting fixture at Sphere’s entrance atrium, MSG announced Tuesday.
Aura will function a guide who “can answer complex questions” regarding Sphere, its unique engineering and other facets of the highly advanced technology utilized within the eye-popping concert hall. The bot may also help guests with basic questions similar to directions inside the venue and details on every day’s performances.
But Aura’s objective? To grasp concertgoers on a more “human” level.
“While I understand probably the most complex concepts of math and science — you remain a mystery,” said Aura.
“Your emotions, your humor and your relationship with technology require further study, so you have to visit me at Sphere. I’m excited to satisfy you and introduce you to the longer term of live entertainment at my latest home.”
“Aura’s role at Sphere marks a very modern application of robots, providing guests from across the globe with a possibility to maneuver into the longer term of entertainment and interact inside a latest technological frontier,” MSG Ventures CEO David Dibble said in an announcement.
“Our vision with every aspect of Sphere is to remodel the best way people experience live events, and with Aura we’re pushing the boundaries of how robotics might be used to reinforce our guests’ journey through the venue.”
As an authority on Sphere, Aura can explain the ground-breaking engineering, layers of custom-designed technology and the creative mission on the core of the venue.
Aura is just certainly one of several major high-tech facets of Sphere, also home to a near-immaculate sound system often called HOLOPLOT. The high-grade speakers make each seat in the huge venue feel as for those who are right in front of the stage.
Sphere also had its ultra-high resolution cameras tested on board the International Space Station.
Along with live shows, Sphere will show immersive movies like Darren Aronofsky’s “part sci-fi story, part nature documentary” called “Postcard From Earth” after its opening this month.
“Obviously, we’re bringing all of the expertise we’ve got from operating MSG,” MSG owner James Dolan previously told The Post. “Still, we feel like we’re bringing Vegas to the World.”
