Nigeria and its oil wealth is a complicated story. The west African nation is the continent’s biggest oil producer, and it ranks eleventh in global terms. But it has a hard time attracting foreign investment – prompting President Muhammadu Buhari to free Nigeria’s state-owned oil firm from state control earlier this month.Oil accounts for 90 percent of Nigeria’s exports but it’s had problems exploiting that wealth of crude – producing well under its daily OPEC quota. It’s estimated that about a tenth of the oil pumped ends up stolen: In the first quarter of 2022 that was crude worth a billion dollars. Where it ends up is a dirty business. Illegal refineries mark Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta. Dirty and dangerous: Back in April, an refinery exploded, killing more than a hundred people.
The government is cracking down on illegal refineries. But when DW correspondent Flourish Chukwurah visited the Niger Delta, she found that the problem is far from over.

Nigeria has the possibility of becoming a very high income country on a continent desperately in need of change. Corruption must be stopped and efforts tripled! I feel for the poor who are constantly exploited.

Nigeria stole the assets of families and leased them to corrupt Nigerians from specific families and international business. Saboutage is bound to happen as long as ancestral owners and communities on which Oil is assets are found are forcefully evicted and discomfited without the accuring financial compensation.

A normal country would educate those "illegal refinery" workers and help them set up regular businesses with safety standards.
But this is Africa. The continent where peasents are not allowed to earn a dime if the chief doesn't get percentage.

The worst part of it! Is that, it has been long the people of the Eastern Nigeria are crying, and complaining for even worster thing than oil cases, that also metaphors into oil cases! But, the British and there canter parts, the European and Americans, turn delft ear, or just look away as if is nothing. But, them all are aware of what DW are showing, in fact even the the DW, knows. They want us all to die, so that they will come and take our land! But, the God of our ancestors will satinly stop them this time.

This man makes sense; the corruption in the oil sector is alarming. A country of two hundred million people, the highest exporter of quality crude, can't have functioning refineries…

Nigeria is German and European Union allie. In fact, it is the country that European Union relies next to Ruwanda to plunder the Sahel region and the mineral resource rich the Congos. Nigeria is the home BokoHaram; as a matter of fact, it is quite possible that the Nigerian government is behind the incredibly irrational and savage BokoHaram. Nigerian corrution is unprecedented in world history; it is deep rooted across the board beyond repair.

  35. Tomas Sankara says:

I still think Nigeria needs land reforms, it would be difficult but we need to give land back to the people that own it. Stop this 99 years certificate of ownership. The land and it’s contents beneath belong to who inherited it. Government has no business in business. We need to move to a pure tax regime just like the US, at times people forget that they are the largest oil producing country. What we can do is have maybe a 30 year sliding tax regime for oil and other governments sold minerals starting at like 90% for the federal government and 10% for the land owner then let it slide down every year until the land owner is in full possession of his property. Do not give it to the state or local governments because another explanation would begin immediately.

This is how you know the curses of the Most High upon the Israelites. Even with one of the richest commodities on earth in their backyards, instead of it bringing them wealth, they have misery, poverty and destruction. But, the curses are now turning upon the Gentile nations. Jeremiah 20
