Bravo, Sunil Mittal Bharti. Punjab, Ludhiana and your revered dad late Sat Mittal are proud of you. I had the privilege of meeting your dad at 33 Lodhi Estate when he was member of the Rajya Sabha.

Among the few real gems in the Indian digital space, from DTH to Telecom to Fiber, AirTel truly delivers top class services at reasonable prices and I hope they'll keep being the market leader in this space forever.

Corruption at every level in India will never allow foreign manufacturing companies to setup in India. It is a pipe dream that India will become alternative to China. I would rather bet on Vietnam, Bangladesh more than India. We are stuck with stupid Ideology by Modi government who is not looking to clean-up our corruption and not trying to reform our utterly inefficient judicial system.

Cost of data should have decreased over time however the price of the service has increased which is contrary.

Excellent conversation. Rahul did a great job. He has become an expert in conducting such interviews.
Mr. Mittal gave a peek into the future.

Glad to hear that India is taking advantage of the global situation and regaining the lost ground in manufacturing.

However, a lot needs to be done in training and tooling the youth (even qualified engineering graduates from so called engineering colleges) for making them employable. Retired engineers and professionals could contribute well, provided the Govt creates a platform.

Rahul has tendency to act like Rajdeep. Instead of exploring technology and how it helps public or corporates he is pushing discussion towards competition with Jio

Rahul has tendency to act like Rajdeep. Instead of exploring technology and how it helps public or corporates he is pushing discussion towards competition with Jio, Adani etc. BT should put more mature person to interview people like Sunil Mittal

To be honest Airtel has much better quality….i prefer airtel over jio

  20. Korath Mathew says:

The future of telecommunication is not terrestrial but satellite based communication. Good to hear that Mr Mittal is advocating same philosophy. The government should take notice and allow low earth orbit satellite communication to come to India. While Airtel is partnering with one web there are others who are advanced in this technology. Starlik is operational in 42 countries and it provides excellent speed of 150 Mbps and more. Leo Satacom is ubiquitous over air land and sea and cost a fraction of terrestrial communication especially in remote areas, as the cost of laying OFC is very expensive.

The developed world have already embraced Leo satcom for reaching remote areas. India should also adopt similar technology to provide high speed Internet to rural areas. It cost nothing to government and all that is required is to provide the necessary licence and government policy support.

The recent initiative to pump in over One Lakh crores to BSNL for providing remote connectivity using OFC can be saved if LEO satcom is allowed in India.

  29. deepak tomar says:

He is damn right, services are too cheap in India for businesses to be really able to provide good quality or world-wide services. So, prices should ideally rise slowly so that services are better. Especially 5G services should be prices significantly higher so that differentiation can be done between customers who can afford and so deserves better services.

Why did all these Semi conductor manufacturing move away? WHY?? Obviously stupid it was the inept UPA government, which rendered India directionless in their pursuit to sustain an unholy coalition/alliance. Now what is Rahul Gandhi planning to do with the Bharat chodh do (read not jodo) march?

  33. srini sbir says:

27:38 Now you know why Modi govt. is taxing people a lot. It is because to generate enough capital for PLI schemes. If you were in UPA government, sure you would have subsidies, but how long can you be sitting idle, while China and other Asian nations take away our manufacturing. Someone has to put the foot down and tell people (middle class) that India needs your money to encourage manufacturing, which will provide, if not them, at least the next generation well-paying jobs.
