Matt Damon said he wouldn’t have been capable of survive in Hollywood without best friend Ben Affleck by his side.
The “Bourne Identity” actor, 52, told People Wednesday that Affleck kept him grounded as fame began to “mess” together with his head within the early days of his profession.
“It’s been really helpful to examine in with Ben throughout this whole surreal process over the past 25 years,” Damon said.
“I believe the shock of becoming famous is so … I mean, that messed me up for a pair years,” he added.
Affleck, 50, and Damon met in Cambridge, Massachusetts, once they were young kids and bonded over a love of baseball and film.
The duo started off in Hollywood together after they graduated from highschool and appeared in “School Ties” together in 1992.
They were catapulted onto the A-list after they wrote and starred within the 1997 Oscar-winning smash “Good Will Hunting.”
During his interview, Damon explained how fame affected him after he became an A-list star.
“The entire world just starts to treat you in a different way,” he recalled. “So your subjective experience changes. It’s like someone rewrites your code within the Matrix, but just your code.”
Damon stated that the film biz can still be “overwhelming,” even after three a long time within the highlight.
Nonetheless, he said Affleck has been “helpful” and a “stabilizing” force for him.
He described his friendship with the star as “all the pieces.”
Meanwhile, Damon and Affleck revealed that they even used to share a checking account within the Eighties once they were each struggling to make it in Hollywood.
The pair made the revelation on “The Bill Simons Podcast” last month saying they used to share money to attend auditions and pay bills.
“We were going to assist one another and be there for one another,” Affleck said. “It was like, ‘You’re not going to be alone. I’m not going to be alone. Let’s go on the market and do that together.’ “
The pair have now reunited on-screen for the Nike biopic “Air,” which Affleck also directed.
