Former President Trump can be reinstated on Twitter, Elon Musk said in a tweet Saturday night.
Trump, 76, was banned from the social media platform after the Jan. 6, 2021, revolt.
On Friday, Musk posted a 24-hour Twitter poll asking users to determine if the controversial Trump, who recently announced a recent run for the White House, must be reinstated on the embattled platform.
Ultimately, greater than 15 million people voted, with those selecting to reinstate Trump taking 51.8% of the vote to 48.2% who said no.
“The people have spoken. Trump can be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” Musk wrote just after 8 p.m.
The Latin phrase means “the voice of the people is the voice of God.”
Just before he launched his Twitter poll in regards to the fate of Trump’s presence on the platform, Musk announced the reinstatement of satirical news site the Babylon Bee, controversial writer Jordan Peterson and firebrand comedian Kathy Griffin.
Musk spent $44 billion to buy Twitter, which has been in turmoil ever since his reign began on Nov. 3.
He immediately laid off hundreds of staff, and a whole bunch more have quit within the weeks since.
By Thursday, so many employees had left the app it began to decelerate, prompting fears it could shutter altogether.
The hashtags #RIPTwitter and #GoodbyeTwitter had begun to trend, but Twitter was still functioning as of Saturday, when Musk bragged at how popular the Trump poll was.
“134M people have seen this poll,” he tweeted.
