WASHINGTON — U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced on Friday that David Weiss, the federal prosecutor in Delaware who has led the criminal investigation of President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden, will probably be appointed special counsel within the case.
Garland said that Weiss, who was previously appointed by former President Donald Trump to analyze Hunter Biden, asked earlier this week to be named special counsel.
“Upon considering his request, in addition to the extraordinary circumstances referring to this matter, I even have concluded that it’s in the general public interest to appoint him as special counsel,” Garland said during a press conference on the Department of Justice.
Last month, Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to federal tax charges.
