It was Flag Day at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
The Jets were penalized 11 times of their 13-8 loss to the Falcons.
A staggering seven of those penalties got here in the ultimate 4 minutes of the primary half.
“At the tip of the primary half, [it was] borderline comical,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said.
The Jets had 4 false starts on offense — one each from Carter Warren, Joe Tippmann, Mekhi Becton and Jeremy Ruckert.
That they had an interception by D.J. Reed wiped off the board by an illegal-contact penalty on Reed late in the primary half.
One other flag was called on Reed just before halftime, this one for unnecessary roughness, for successful on Drake London in the long run zone.
“Obviously my intent wasn’t to get any unnecessary roughness penalties,” Reed said. “Once I checked out the replay, though, it type of did appear to be we went a little bit helmet to helmet. The NFL is emphasizing that. I would get a superb for that, but my intent was to not attempt to hurt him or anything. It was to simply attempt to knock the ball out.”
Penalties have been a problem the past two months.
Saleh was asked if his team was undisciplined.
“I assumed our guys fought hard,” Saleh said. “I respect the query, I understand the query with regard to penalties and all that, but our guys play hard. I’m not going to apologize for his or her sort of play.
“We’ve got to wash up the pre-snap stuff on offense with regard to the usage of cadence. It’s obviously fooling us greater than it’s fooling them. It’s stuff we’ve got to recuperate at.”
The Jets suffered several injuries Sunday.
TE C.J. Uzomah injured his right knee.
Saleh said it’s an MCL injury and they’re going to know more Monday.
DT Perrion Winfrey, making his Jets debut, suffered a foot injury that required him to be carted off.
Saleh said it was “really bad.”
WR Jason Brownlee left the sport with an ankle injury.
The Jets inactives were: QB Zach Wilson, WR Randall Cobb, CB Bryce Hall, LB Zaire Barnes, OT Billy Turner, DE Carl Lawson and OL Austin Deculus.
