The world of rap has lost one other great.
Amid the celebration of Hip-Hop’s fiftieth anniversary, rapper Magoo — who famously collaborated with genre giants reminiscent of Missy Elliot, 52, Timbaland, 51 and late R&B icon Aaliyah — has died at age 50.
His explanation for death has not yet been made public.
Magoo, née Melvin Barcliff from Norfolk, Virginia, is best known for laying down stellar lyrics on late ’90s and early 2000s hits such “Up Jumps Da Boogie,” “Beep Me 911” and “Drop.” He also worked closely alongside Timbaland as a producer.
His celebrity friends and fans alike have taken to social media to mourn his loss.
“I don’t even know easy methods to say anything at this point…this dude, at all times pushed me,” wrote singer Ginuwine, 52, partly, in an Instagram caption dedicated to Magoo Sunday.
“Totally among the finest ever in my eyes at all times pressing forward I do know we didn’t talk quite a bit however the love was and will likely be at all times there my brotha,” continued the “Differences” vocalist.
Beneath his post, music heavyweights reminiscent of Jermaine Dupri and Omarion offered their condolences.
Musician Digital Black, too, paid tribute to the fallen star via Instagram, writing, “Man can’t imagine this [Rest In Heaven] Magoo rattling big bro wasn’t ready for this in any respect.”
Up to now, neither Missy nor Timbaland have publicly commented on Magoo’s passing.
