HEBRON, N.Y. — Pianist Daniel Shulman will present a solo recital of music by the masters on Sunday, starting at 3 p.m. The event will happen on the Hebron United Presbyterian Church at 3153 Route 30, West Hebron.
Sonatas by Beethoven and Schubert, joyful works of their respective early years, will probably be complemented by short pieces of Chopin and Debussy. The church sanctuary is home to a stunning piano and has acoustics ideally suitable for music.
A longtime resident of Salem, Shulman performs at various locations in the world and is director of the Chamber Music Series on the Historic Salem Courthouse. He also appears in locations throughout the U.S. and usually in Japan. He has conducted on the International Holland Festival, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Monday Evening and Bing Museum Concert events in Los Angeles.
He has served as director of orchestral studies and conductor of the orchestra on the California Institute of the Arts and as founding-director of Within the Music Room and the Shulman Concert events, presenting in-house musical events. Shulman has been called “a musician of imagination and insight” (The Latest York Times), “a veteran performer capable of convey the progress and idiom of the music” (Los Angeles Times), a musician who “with refreshing disregard for showmanship, offers recent insights into the music” (Village Voice), and “the most effective musicians of his generation” (the late Elliott Carter).
There isn’t any admission fee, but donations will probably be accepted.
