Two Wawa stores in Philadelphia closed for good over the weekend, while other locations are shortening hours amid an uptick in crime.
“We’re very sorry we will’t be there for our friends and neighbors at these two locations, but we proceed to serve the community from our other nearby stores and our commitment to the greater region stays strong,” Wawa said in a press release to FOX 29, regarding the locations at twelfth and Market and nineteenth and Market. “Philadelphia is our hometown and that’s something that can never change.”
Locations in Feasterville, a Philadelphia suburb, shall be closed between midnight and 5 a.m. ET.
Earlier this month, an worker was pepper sprayed during a robbery at a store within the Philadelphia neighborhood of University City.
“Despite reducing hours and investing in additional operational measures, continued safety and security challenges and business aspects have made it increasingly difficult to stay open in these two locations,” the corporate said in a press release earlier this month. “All associates from these two stores shall be offered continued employment at Wawa.”
There are still quite a few locations in Philadelphia area. Wawa also operates in Latest Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C.
Wawa didn’t reply to FOX Business’ request for comment.
