Phil Mickelson is in full agreement with one in every of his fellow skilled golfers: He’s a complete “golf sicko.”
Michael Kim, currently ranked No. 156 on this planet, took to Twitter Saturday as Mickelson slogged through the rain throughout the third round of the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill, and shared what it was like fiddling with the six-time major winner throughout the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
“In any case these years he was still GRINDING out pars even after we were in fiftieth place,” wrote Kim, who finished seventh on the Wells Fargo Championship two weeks ago. “He was so into the round. No person was there, still gave fist pumps and his trademark tip of the cap when the three volunteers clapped for shot.
“He likes to play golf. During off weeks, he plays continuously and can play you for whatever on the course.
“Had his coach on the bag and was continuously talking concerning the things he was feeling and what was working and never working.
“Principally guy is a golf sicko.”
Mickelson, 52, responded to Kim on Twitter.
“True True True True AND TRUE,” Mickelson wrote.
Mickelson has had a rough go of it this weekend in Rochester but managed to make the cut, his a hundredth made cut at a significant championship.
He shot a 5-over 75 within the third round to enter Sunday’s final round at 10-over, 16 shots back of leader Brooks Koepka.
After a surprising final round on the 2023 Masters earned him a tie for second place, Mickelson believed he was “able to go on a tear.”
In his three subsequent LIV Golf events, Mickelson finished sixteenth, fifteenth and forty fifth.
Mickelson also drew attention on a rainy Saturday for wearing what seemed to be sunglasses, but he explained that wasn’t the case.
“They’re light enhancement glasses which are made for overcast and rainy days,” Mickelson wrote on Twitter. “They add light, helps to read greens, and protects from wind and rain drops. They’re not for everyone. Actually, not many individuals even know of them.”
