The Post’s Mark Cannizzaro makes his for this week’s U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club:
Patrick Cantlay
He’s an L.A. native and has done every thing but win this season with a tie for ninth on the PGA Championship, a tie for 14th on the Masters, a 3rd on the RBC Heritage, tie for fourth on the Arnold Palmer and a 3rd on the Genesis down the road at Riviera.
Joe LaCava’s on the bag for him, and this week Cantlay wins his first profession major.
It’s silly to think he won’t be in the combination late on Sunday, having won two U.S. Opens already and because the reigning PGA champion.
Tyrrell Hatton
He hasn’t shown the maturity and patience on the golf course to be a real threat at a significant, however the mercurial Englishman has been in great type of late.
He was third last week in Canada, tied for twelfth on the Memorial, tied fifteenth on the PGA, was fifth at Byron Nelson and third on the Wells Fargo.
That’s called trending.
Viktor Hovland
I’m all the time one to choose a player in good form, and nobody has played consistently higher of late than Hovland, who was runner-up on the PGA and won the Memorial.
Jon Rahm
Because he’s the No. 2-ranked player on this planet.
Because he has 4 wins in California, where he captured his first profession win and only major championship.
