Recent Orleans Saints wideout Michael Thomas said he wasn’t playing the “blame game” in a series of posts on social media which called out his team and quarterback Derek Carr.
Taking to his X account, the All-Pro wideout looked as if it would hint at a divorce with the Saints — and claimed a “bad ball” from Carr led to his season-ending knee injury in Recent Orleans’ 27-19 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 12.
It began when Thomas responded to a fan on X, who wrote: “Mike in the event you can stay healthy, you’ll have the stats you had when Drew [Brees] was around.”
The three-time Pro Bowler replied: “Well if I didn’t get arrange by a nasty ball I probably would’ve had a light-weight little 1k yards this 12 months but could of should of [sic] I do know I get it lol.
“On top of that they wasn’t even attempting to get me the ball nevertheless it’s no denying my variety of play it don’t age playa you will notice.”
The fan added that a “change of scenery probably” could be best for Thomas, who is ready to enter the last 12 months of his contract with Recent Orleans — where he has spent his entire eight-year NFL profession.
Thomas also replied to a separate thread on X, which explained there have been loads of times throughout the season when he was open and didnt get the ball.
“Unfortunately Derek Carr rarely pulled the trigger especially after MT called him out on the AT Perry play,” one X user wrote, to which Thomas replied: “Exactly, they was mad I defended my buddy [Saints wideout] Chris [Olave] when everyone was scared. But remember we don’t play the blame game, y’all goofy.”
Thomas was referring to when he publicly defended Olave after Carr became visibly frustrated following a failed third down conversion where the quarterback threw the ball away over Olave during a loss to the Jaguars in October.
Thomas also weighed in on one other thread, which discussed the 30-year-old keeping his composure and being a team player, despite his lack of targets.
In response to one fan that said, “Will miss you in NOLA,” Thomas wrote: “real spill.”
Thomas suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 10 when he was tackled by Minnesota cornerback Akayleb Evans after a high throw from Carr in the primary quarter.
He had 38 catches for 439 yards and a touchdown across the Saints’ first nine games.
Carr suffered a right shoulder injury and a concussion within the loss to Minnesota.
Thomas’ future with the Saints seems uncertain, but offloading him won’t be a straightforward task.
He has a $1.2 million base, $8.99 million prorated bonus and $2.2 million roster bonus in 2024.
He has a dead cap of $18.2 million next season.
Thomas was a second-round pick, forty seventh overall, by the Saints within the 2016 draft.
The wideout led the NFL interceptions in 2018 and 2019, the identical 12 months he was named NFL Offensive Player of the 12 months and likewise led the league in receiving yards.
