Despite being the queen of rom-coms, Meg Ryan says she still hasn’t got the celebrity part nailed down.
“I actually have to say, I don’t think I used to be a excellent celebrity,” the 61-year-old told Entertainment Tonight Tuesday.
“I just don’t think I’m celebrity… I just at all times felt a little bit bit like life was over, like, outside this little bubble; outside some form of membrane. And I remember cars closing — like, expensive cars — and then you definately don’t hear the skin anymore.”
The “What Happens Later” actress said experiencing seclusion could make people feel “roped off,” which could ultimately result in a “limited life.”
“You’re roped off in that a part of thing, and I just knew it’s just not good for an artist or a creative person to have limited life, in a way, to attract from,” she notes.
To shake things up, Ryan moved out of LA along with her family to concentrate on her personal life.
“I actually have a really charmed life,” she explained. “People generally smile once they say hi to me, they usually’re pleased about a few of the movies I’ve done, and that’s great.”
“I’m not saying anything bad about that. I actually have a really charmed experience, I recognize that,” she added.
The actress became well-known as a romantic comedy icon throughout the ‘90s, having starred in hit movies like “Sleepless in Seattle,” “You’ve Got Mail,” and “When Harry Met Sally…”
After gaining success, Ryan decided to take a step back from the limelight and limited the amount of jobs she took after becoming uninterested in the celebrity.
Ryan hasn’t been seen in a big-screen movie since 2015’s “Ithaca,” nonetheless the star last 12 months thrilled fans by announcing she was returning to rom-com roots.
“I took an enormous break because I felt like there’s just so many other parts of my experience as a human being I desired to develop,” the mother of two told People last month.
“It’s nice to think about it as a job and never a life-style. And that’s a fantastic way of navigating it for me,” she added.
Ryan also admitted that she took a step back from the silver screen to spend more time along with her children.
The actress shares son Jack, 31, with ex-husband Dennis Quaid, and daughter Daisy, 18, whom she adopted in 2006.
Now that she’s finally able to return to the large screen, Ryan’s newest romantic comedy “What Happens Later” sees her star opposite David Duchovny.
