Matthew McConaughey have to be exhausted after watching his beloved Texas Longhorns fall to the Washington Huskies within the College Football Playoff on Monday.
The Academy Award winner, who’s a diehard Longhorns fan, was prominently featured on ESPN’s multiple broadcasts as he took within the motion from the sidelines in Recent Orleans, where Texas made its first CFP appearance within the Sugar Bowl.
McConaughey went from hyping up players, slapping helmets and cheering to looking defeated when the second-ranked Huskies (14-0) celebrated a 37-31 victory over No. 3 Texas (12-2).
With one second to play and a six-point Huskies lead over the Longhorns, McConaughey was seen with each arms within the air.
But his hopes were crushed when Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers threw a fade to a tightly covered Adonai Mitchell and it was knocked away by Washington cornerback Elijah Jackson.
Texas had 4 possibilities at the tip zone after attending to the Washington 12-yard line with 15 seconds left, but Ewers missed on the last three.
The 54-year-old actor was seen pacing and passionately preaching to Texas players on the sidelines, and joined ESPN’s Field Pass crew for commentary within the second quarter.
He left the announcers saying he had to search out a greater position to observe the motion.
“I can’t keep taking a look at the rattling screen,” McConaughey said.
Kenny Mayne also quipped that McConaughey was “illegally contained in the players’ box” while on the sidelines.
McConaughey was an excellent sport after the loss, and reflected on Texas’ college football season in a post on X.
“What a journey this season,” he wrote early Tuesday morning. “Didn’t end how we wanted, pleased with this @texasfootball team – hats off to the huskies.
McConaughey shared a separate video message on X last month, when he encouraged the Longhorns to “run [Washington] out of Recent Orleans” within the Sugar Bowl.
“Hey longhorns, we play big games well, good, we higher,” he said on the time. “We got an enormous offense coming in here, secondary goes to be tested all day, D-line, do what you’ve done all eat after which some. Communicate.
“… Run em’ out of Recent Orleans, Hook em’.”
McConaughey is a staple at Longhorns games.
His cover photo on X is a snap of him sitting within the stands at Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin, where the team plays home games.
Washington will face No. 1 Michigan next Monday night in Houston, in a quest for his or her first national championship since 1991 — and the Pac-12’s first since USC in 2004.
