In this episode, we look at how mass tourism is threatening the region’s natural beauty and some of its famous hotspots. The high number of tourists is said to be completely overwhelming the region’s coasts and this is perhaps felt even more on the popular Greek island of Mykonos, which draws millions of visitors each year. Worried locals say they can no longer recognise the island, as more and more unplanned construction sites are popping up. The Greek government says it will address the problem, and many hope it will have an impact. Fay Doulgeri has more from Mykonos.
Across The Balkans, hosted by Nafisa Latic, is TRT World’s programme that focuses specifically on the issues and fault lines shaping Southeast Europe today.

Greece and Turkey should unite and take advantage of tourism …both are beautiful countries
🕊Totally agree .. I was there in 2012 ,it was full of Russian & German.
🕊The fisherman we’re telling me there is a severe decline in fishing do to the fact that Tourist throw their cigarette buds in the ocean & it caused the fish to Suffocate… never mind the amount of trash & Plastic bottles they throw on the beach🕊
🕊The Tourist had no respect for the local what so ever & were acting like the Greek should be happy we spent money in their island…!!!!
24:23 My opinion: The moderator is mentioning and emphases in this tiny interview over ten times "European Tourism" while the report is about a region located at the mediterrenean (and the mediterrenean is a region where africa, europe and asia intersect). To tacle these problems we need a trans-continental approach, because eco-systems dont know "euopean" and "non-european" and other forms of nationalisms (fortunately).
