Seems, there may only be one “Barbie.”
Margot Robbie, 33, doesn’t think there will likely be a sequel to the large summer hit “Barbie.”
“I feel we put all the pieces into this one,” Robbie recently told the Associated Press when asked a couple of potential follow-up. “We didn’t construct it to be a trilogy or something.”
“It was like, Greta [Gerwig] put all the pieces into this movie, so I can’t imagine what can be next,” she added.
“Barbie,” which also stars A-listers similar to Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Helen Mirren, and America Ferrera, follows the favored Mattel doll (Robbie) as she is forced to journey to the actual world after she begins to “malfunction” by developing cellulite and experiencing death anxiety while living within the utopian Barbieland.
“I’d say the largest takeaway for me is that original movies can still hit huge on the box office,” “The Wolf of Wall Street” star continued to the AP. “It doesn’t should be a sequel or a prequel or a remake. It will possibly be totally original. It will possibly still be big given the large budget to do this.”
Robbie also stressed that having a female lead was not as vital as a number of the movie’s critics made it out to be.
“Simply because there’s a female lead doesn’t mean it’s not going to hit all 4 quadrants, which is, you recognize, I feel a misconception that numerous people still have,” Robbie explained. “So, it’s really vital that ‘Barbie’ did well.”
The Post reached out to Robbie reps for comment.
The project has grossed greater than $1.4 billion in global ticket sales and dethroned “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” as the largest Warner Bros. movie ever.
“Potter” had held the record because it was released in 2011.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine something like this,” Gerwig, 40, said in regards to the film’s success. “I desired to make something anarchic and wild and funny and cathartic, and the concept it’s actually being received that way, it’s kind of extraordinary.”
Since its July release, the film has spurred corporations to release “Barbie”-themed items and inspired several TikTok trends.
In a single, users try and stand like the long-lasting doll despite the fact that podiatrists warn against the practice.
A second trend involves rethinking the concept of aging.
“Barbie” has also danced its method to No. 14 on the list of top 15 highest-grossing movies of all time.
It’s available for purchase or rent on Amazon and to own on DVD.
