Christopher Luxon MP, New Zealand’s Leader of the Opposition set out a compelling vision for the renewal of public services and economic reform through high standards and best practice, learning from the best in the world. At a time when governments are toying with protectionism, he made the moral and business case for global trade and interdependence.

That man is odd. He used to run an airline. Did he mention that?

If he and his coterie get near in power in NZ then many NZers are going to get a whole lot poorer.

In the words of another " This is a career killing speech. If the media does not pick on this, we're screwed ".

And another " he complains about "national income insurance coming at us, things like national awards coming at us… extending sick leave, minimum wages, more public holidays” "

And I'll leave you with this one
" Luxon says we're playing a very "wet" game & haven't been out in the world doing trade. The UK & EU trade deals don't count I suppose, or our record exports. "

  4. Bevan Morgan says:

Why on earth would you listen to Luxon?

  5. MsRatsalad says:

Luxton has no original ideas and is only pursuing the office of prime minister for his own personal ambition.

The NZ govt has been screwing people over since the 90's when they allowed the Asian invasion. Now they take people from anywhere who couldn't care less about the standard of living and minimum wage, so long as they don't have to go back to whatever god-forsaken dump they came from. This clown, despite his most eloquent speech is cut from the same cloth. NZ is the country run by those who would otherwise be deemed incompetent in real corporate management roles.

  9. Barry Nichols says:

What a poltical fraud. His plan, tax cuts for the rich. Cut government services

  10. Jo Devonshire says:

We have more wrap around services under this current Govt than National EVER did… go live somewhere else if NZ is so shit. Cos youre doing no favours for anyone except the already wealthy

  11. Charles Leroq says:

This man is an absolute lightweight. Him calling New Zealand businesses soft, should lose him the election if anyone's listening

Gawd 🤞 he'll end up going like the last one did. She was a piece of work too!

  13. Charles Leroq says:

Why does he have to slag public servants off, all the time. These people work very hard for their country. They're people like data scientists and civil planners. He keeps dismissing them as 'bureaucrats'. It's cheap and tacky, and somewhat ironic considering his previous employment as a corporate functionary.

  16. Falman - says:

You are kidding. What an a hole. He forgot to mention he's got 7 houses. He has no rights to talk about our housing market especially when it was his mentor John key who busted down 1000s of housings for privatization purposes And forced people to live on cars. Than he realized he was being found out he quited before his term. Don't believe a word he says cus he would never say that s here because he knows some1 will call his bs out

  17. Z M says:

The interviewers like…. sorry where are we going?

  18. Graeme Tucker says:

This is deliberate lies. The reason house prices have gone up so much is because of a shortage of houses, in part caused by Covid, but mostly caused by his predecessor, John Key & Co creating that shortage, which they did by massively increasing low wage immigration, leaving future generations to deal with it! Rents have gone up massively for the same reason, a shortage of properties. The last National government built 100 state houses for rental in 9 years, but bulldozed 2000! They pretended they were earthquake risks, so when they bulldozed a state house why didn't they replace it with a new state house? Why, because they know shortages drive up prices! Most of the National party politicians, are landlords and this guy Luxon is a landlord too, he owns 7 residential properties. These landlords don't have increased costs, they barely do required maintenance, and when they know their tenants get a pay rise, they increase rent by that amount! Landlords need to be taxed to the max, they need incentives to lower rental prices by being told they'll get a tax rebate if they do, and a tax hike if they don't. Oh and Liar Luxon isn't happy with the idea that landlords should pay more tax, because he's a landlord!

  19. Mike Barton says:

He mentioned Michaela School. You should know.

    " . It's a charter school that runs like a military school & uses rote learning & 'teach to the test'. That's Luxon's model…"

  20. shitzhu16 says:

As someone who owns seven houses, his complaints about Landlords getting a hard time from the government would be laughable if not so ironic.

  21. Matt Borsos says:

Will NZ fall for a man who has not 1 original idea and believes in the rapture and speaking in tongues???

  22. Craig Macdonald says:

Nothing like heading overseas on the coat-tails of an effective leader, then trashing a country you want to take leadership of. Guy can't open his gob without lies falling out of it. One of the first things he did after being elected leader of the opposition was take a limo to cross the street.

  23. Andy Langley says:

He doesn't represent us in any way, shape or form. If by some tragedy National gets into power, Boris Johnson will look like Churchill. The lights are on but nobody's home, he's just a corporate bullshitter who was CEO of a national carrier subsidised by the government and even then he was universally disliked.

He's out for his own end, nothing else. Cut the sporting anecdotes FFS

  24. Mike Barton says:

Why would Luxon be at Policy Exchange?

" Policy Exchange has played an important role in shifting power away from rival institutions and into the prime minister’s office. For several years it has been building a case for curtailing the judiciary. It provided the ammunition for the government’s current attack on judicial review, which enables citizens to sue the government to uphold the law. This was the process transparency campaigner Gina Miller used: in 2016 to oblige Theresa May to seek parliamentary approval for triggering the Brexit process; and, last year, to overturn Boris Johnson’s suspension of parliament. "

  25. Bronwyn Drysdale says:

    Woah !!!
Chris Luxon speaking as if he is the expert on policy Sorry but "I used to run an [ not private but 51% state owned] airline", doesn't make him an expert. As for our hardworking public services how dare he not address the deficiencies the Labour government inherited from National in this space. Across public health, education social welfare and justice, National knee capped the public service at the same time as it blew budgets on super expensive expert contractors…
So telling that he visits a "charter styled private school with military discipline approach"…yeah right privatizing schools really worked last time, just like National's attempt at privatising our prisons. Please note my sarcasm there.
We lost many teachers during this time, across all sectors of education pre-school to tertiary level.
National was in government in NZ for 9 years under John Key as Prime Minister…and what did we see … their failed we know best "Social investment approach to welfare… insecure contracting environments that created insecure competitive silo'ing with narrow target/ tick box solutions, rather than collaboration and long term focused community led solutions.
It was Nationals government that brought in Paula Rebstock and her crew to create the unethical and rascist policy of putting in place laws removing babies at birth from families of intergenerational disadvantage (often indigenous) and then employed a CEO from overseas, with no cultural awareness of our country, to run the "Ministry for Vulnerable Children".
It was National that has such poor relations at the community
interface in our Ministry of Social Development run Work and Income offices (far too many of which were closed down up and down the country), resulting in those that were left open, having to put security guards outside of them.
Nationals policy around helping those at the bottom socio economically or as Chris Lucon recently called them "bottom feeders", is to chastise, stigmatize, and know what's best for – using a punitive model , rather than a strength based collaborative or partnership model. Much like their three strikes and you're out justice policies which are black and white thinking at best and fuelling our prisons populations at worst. Mind you for a political party that sees devolution of public services to privatization as successful strategy for a quick buck and less accountability at the coal face of delivery, privatized prisons need to be full to be a good "buy" so on those terms locking everyone up is a success over rehabilitation.
National also refused to measure child poverty or homelessness, at a time when they were whole sale selling off state housing, often throwing people out on dubious grounds (like P contamination testing later proved to be a complete red herring) and they also unfairly sold off massive numbers of homes to overseas non resident investors fuelling a rental crisis while increasi g housing costs for first home buyers.
Yep many things Labour has done in terms of repealing of of damaging legislation, policy change and investment in infrastructure (including human infrastructure in public services) and education, will still take time to reverse the damage done by previous National led government, but listening to this numpty it is clear he worries more about repeating failed policies and he has in fact very little knowledge across areas as can be seen in his responses, unlike our current world class PM Jacinda Adern.

note how he conveniently left out the fact that building consents are at a 50 year high and his previous ruling National Party had some of the lowest consents not seen since WW2. He also failed to mention under that previous National Goverment there were 10,000,s homeless, living under bridges, garages and in their cars. Hence why many have been put up in emergency housing. You simply cannot believe one word this man says.
