It was a “Jeopardy!” episode to forget.
A broadcast of the favored game which aired on June 7 is under fire from producers and fans alike as all three contestants didn’t answer a clue a whopping 23 times.
“On this game, this must be a record, 23 triple stumpers, and it’s something we never prefer to see,” producer Sarah Foss said on the “Inside ‘Jeopardy!” podcast.
While nobody is definite as to why there have been a record variety of clues left unanswered former champion Buzzy Cohen did give one possible reason.
“Not good, you recognize it’s the last game before lunch, perhaps everyone’s a bit of sleepy or something, a bit of hungry, but that’s a tricky stat to hold with you,” Cohen said.
Of all 23 triple stumpers, 7 happened in the primary round while the last 16 occurred in “Double Jeopardy!”
The massive variety of triple stumpers, produced the bottom Coryat scores, a contestant’s rating if wagering isn’t factored in.
One in every of the clues that became a triple stumper featured Vice President Kamala Harris.
“This Californian is number two in line,” the clue read, in accordance with J! Archive.
Hoping not to attract an excessive amount of attention to the painful viewing fans saw the week prior, the producers brushed off the show as something minuscule before moving into the subsequent segment of the podcast.
“Thankfully I’ve seen nothing go viral about it so it’s not gonna go viral, we’ve mentioned it briefly on the pod and we’ll forget it ever happened,” Foss concluded.
Many fans weren’t thrilled with the contestants’ performance through the now infamous match, with some calling it the worst episode ever.
“My God @Jeopardy how boring is tonights show. All three are clueless. Not much enjoyment watching Mayim answer every thing.
“Wow, tonight was horrible. They need recent writers,” one other person wrote, blaming the clue makers as a substitute of the contestants.
“That is one among the collectively worst showings on Jeopardy I’ve ever seen. Someone higher pull this off,” a 3rd user said.
Suresh Krishnan went on to win the episode, his second win of a 6-game streak that ended on Thursday with a Final Jeopardy! round that also featured a triple stumper.
