Fans of “Jeopardy!” are blasting the show’s “misleading” final clue that left all three contestants stumped.
The Final Jeopardy clue for the Monday, May 1 episode was within the category “18th Century Literature.”
Host Mayim Bialik, 47, read the clue: “The primary name of this title character is from Hebrew for ‘dedicated to God’; his last name suggests he will be easily duped.”
The primary contestant answered, incorrectly, “Who’s Candide?”
The subsequent contestant, writing, “Who’s Jude Obscure?” was also improper.
The ultimate contestant looked as if it would know he was improper by the point Bialik turned to him, laughing as she read his response, “Who’s Easy Simon?”
The reply producers were search for was: “Who’s Gulliver? Lemuel Gulliver from Swift’s ‘Gulliver’s Travels.’”
Fans weren’t comfortable with the clue and took to Twitter to let the show know.
“I think this clue was misleading. It led one to consider the reply was an individual with two names,” one person tweeted.
“I attempted to think about names with ‘El’ after which tried to recollect if there have been any books about people named Elijah… forgot about Lemuel,” another person said.
“Terrible clue!” a fan exclaimed.
Nonetheless, some people were surprised not one of the contestants got it right.
“Super proud that I got this right, especially considering not one of the contestants did,” one viewer boasted.
“Got it swiftly,” one person shared.
“This was an odd one, I’m surprised all of them missed it,” someone said.
They continued, “‘Easily duped’ sent my mind straight to ‘gullible’, and even not being certain of the primary name part, the proper answer should’ve no less than been a guess for considered one of them.”
