Jackson Mahomes pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge in Kansas City on Thursday.
Mahomes, 23, the younger brother of superstar Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was charged in reference to an incident at a restaurant in Overland Park, Kan., during which he was accused of shoving a waiter and grabbing the owner’s neck and forcibly kissing her in February 2023.
Mahomes was sentenced to 6 months’ probation, based on the Associated Press, which added that he “was taken into the custody of the Johnson County Sheriff’s office, which is able to determine whether he’s eligible for work release.”
The felony charges related to the sexual battery accusations were dropped earlier this 12 months after the restaurant owner refused to testify.
“Like I said from the start, Jackson has done nothing flawed. We had full confidence that the reality of the matter would ultimately be revealed. The defense will reserve further comment until the remaining count is disposed of,” Mahomes’ attorney, Brandon Davies, said in an announcement when his client’s sexual battery charges were dropped.
Last May, Patrick Mahomes was asked concerning the legal issues his brother was facing.
“Truthfully, it’s type of a private thing that I just type of gotta keep to myself,” the Chiefs quarterback said on the time.
“At the top of the day, I come here to play football and check out to handle my family at the identical time. So just type of keep it to myself and just go on the market and play football once I’m within the constructing.”
Jackson and Patrick’s mother, Randi, claimed before the Super Bowl that her family was coping with “fake allegations” against Jackson.
“We put this pasture behind us. There have been some fake allegations against him that finally got here out, which was lots…,” Randi said. “We were blessed that all of it got dropped due to the situation, for other reasons.”
