With prices rocketing, the inflation blame game is now in full swing. Some commentators blame Putin; others blame energy companies but there’s also an interesting case to be made that Brexit is at least partly to blame.

The reason inflation is high is because of the furlough scheme. We paid people to sit at home whilst we closed down the economy for 18 months and everyone banked the cash. Now we have reopened the economy, business needs to recoup its losses and they know exactly who has the money to pay for that. The Ukraine war is of course a contributing factor but not the main factor. The US is 100% energy self sufficient but it too has a high inflation rate. Look at the amount of money it sent to its citizens via cheque during the pandemic and thus the same problem.
No the EU is nearly bankrupt now they don't have the UK to bail them out, best thing we ever did leaving that club, I mean who wants to be a member of the same Union where one of its leaders, Makron, is biggest appeaser since Neville Chamberlain in WWII and we all know how that ended don't we?
Imagine actually concluding yes when inflation is high in basically every country
No the pandemic is to blame for high inflation because the inflation is the world over not just in the UK
Yes it is responsible for the entire worlds major inflation thatβs going on right now. You see the route of all woes is BREXIT.
Tory britain π± massive inflation, failing NHS. Unfinished brexit, unthinkable energy prices, the list is endless, the tories have managed to inflict more destruction on this country than the Germans could in two world wars.
All of my mainland European friends have left London. It's a very different atmosphere here now. And I am thinking about leaving too. It's changed so much culturally as well. Also, do I want to live in a country that follows idiots like Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage into this mess. What does that say about the majority of the people here….
It is ironic that Europe, especially Germany and Italy, left itself so vulnerable to Putin that anyone can blame Brexit for the current situation. Even Trump saw that coming.
It's straightforward, inflation in the UK is 10.1%CPI, and inflation in the EU is 9.1%CPi on average. So don't quote crazy models UK-specific.
Labour shortage is global. Two jobs to one person looking for work in the US right now.
Brexit is a non-event compared to the global macro drivers sending us back to the stone age when the Torys are basically missing in action.BTW London is still the No2 financial centre of the world. Some people will stop at nothing to be project fear right.πππ
How does inflation in the UK compare to other countries?
Wage driven inflation is good
Yep.
Ffs give this a break
Global QE
Even if the UK left the EU, i believe that we should stand side by side in order to give continental responds against russian and chinese agression
It's seriously dishonest and shameful to suggest that Brexit is to blame for this inflation. You can't just throw out the laws of economics like that. The primary driver of the current inflation is the hundreds of billions of pounds that this reckless and incompetent government printed (QE) and dumped directly into the economy (coupled with a massive reduction in economic activity – lock-down). People need to be honest and say this. Any economist worth their stuff knows this – although most are not admitting it. The war in Ukraine just exacerbated it. There are many things that cause inflation but to suggest that Brexit is one of the main cause is seriously dishonest. Whatever effect Brexit might have had is completely negligible.
The problem is not brexit itself. The problem is how people are responding to it.
It should never have been cheaper to buy imported good than to buy from down the road.
What your saying about food prices does not add up. Because Lidl and Aldi are currently the cheapest distributors.
Energy companies are jacking prices in an attempt to 'diswade' the government from persueing green imitiatives. They want the net zero target over turned. They have effectively become a preasure group. Only renationalisation will stop that.
Brexit is not to blame this is propaganda.
Yes and Brexit is to blame for Winter, Ukraine war, Taiwan crisis, Covid,
Of course Brexit is to blame! It's to blame for everything from my aching bunion to global warming.
Almost every country in the world is experience high inflation, some over 20%, and they didn't leave the EU.
The biggest factor in inflation in the UK are gas and electricity prices, which then causes inflation for other items as both types of energy are used in the production of other goods.
Brexit is NOT the cause of gas or electricity price increases
We havn't got Brexit yet, just a half hearted effort from the Buffoon !
No that's a lie Brexit is not to blame the whole world is experiencing the same problem
The only people to "take back control" are the corrupt politicians of UK. Brexit is a bad decision for the general public.
I think that because inflation is a global issue, it was not caused by brexit or trump. But they each left their respective nations significantly more vulnerable to address the issue
You have to understand you position in the world. You are an island in the middle of nowhere with literally no production and nobody willing to work in production. Yet, you voted Brexit -_-). WTO, WTO will save us, really? oh yes I can really see it.
Imagine being a far left-wing youtube channel called TLDR.
No, inflation is caused by the printing of money. We created 20% of all GBP in the last two years, that is what is causing iinflation.
Leaving that dead on arrival union was the best thing that happened to brits
Damn that world wide inflation caused by brexit.
Inflation in the Netherlands in August was just over 12%. Was that caused by Brexit as well? This whole artical is desperate rubbish made up by Remainders.
3:25–3:35 makes no sense at all
If queen die??
πππ When it comes to gas price it's very high in EU compared to the rest of world , the main reason being EU's over reliance on Russian energy.
Project fear everyone.
Putin and his pipelines mate.
Still banging on about Brexit ππ€¦πΌ Next up did Brexit stop the queen living to 100
No; that's that one answered then.
Echo echo echo
Brexit has had little to no impact on inflation.
stats from statista, Estonia 23.2%, Latvia 21.3%, Lithuania 20.9%, Czech, 17.3%, Bulgaria 14.9%, Hungary 14.7%, Poland 14,2%, Romania 13%, Slovakia 12.8%, Croatia 12.7%, Slovenia 11.7%, Netherlands 11.6%, Greece 11.3%, Spain 10.7%, Cyprus 10.6%, Belgium 10.4% *UK 10.1%, EU average 9.8%*, Ireland 9.6%, Denmark 9.6%
Brexit has little to do with it. Inflation almost entirely in line with Europe and other comparable counties
No.
Short answer no Brexit isn't to blame
Of course! The Brexiteers blame everyone and everything for inflation eg. the cost of living crisis, but the one thing that they will NEVER admit to, is the Brexit factor!
Surprise surprise, anti brexit stance, still.
It was corronavirus and lockdowns and printing loads of money on the printing press that's what is causing inflation
I'm due to negotiate my wage with my employer, I only get this opertunity once a year as per my work contract. I have no clue what kind of a percentage mark up to ask for in order to ensure I'm not worse off this time next year than I am this year. This isnt even fear mongering this is genuinely scary.
TL;DR version… no
