The federal gun background check system is meant to vet who can purchase guns, but it’s not always bulletproof.

A bipartisan group of senators in June revealed sweeping gun reform legislation that, if passed, could end decades of partisan gridlock and inaction on the issue.
“Today, we finalized bipartisan, commonsense legislation to protect America’s children, keep our schools safe, and reduce the threat of violence across our country,” Sens. Chris Murphy, D-Conn.; John Cornyn, R-Texas; Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., and Thom Tillis, R-N.C. said in a joint statement.
They also reiterated a point Republicans have pushed since the beginning of negotiations: “Our legislation will save lives and will not infringe on any law-abiding American’s Second Amendment rights.” An “enhanced review process” for young gun buyers included in the bill would require an investigative period to examine juvenile and mental health records before buyers under 21 could purchase a firearm.

Summarizing all of the gun problems in the U.S. in 1 sentence: The National Rifle Association bribes politicians to do nothing about gun control, & then those same politicians go on national media claiming there's nothing they can do about mass shootings while also encouraging more gun sales.
Reminder: Roughly 3 out of every 4 Domestic Terrorists that killed at least 4 people since 2016 have been Caucasian Conservative men.
As someone from Central Texas, I'd like my state to have a Governor who could stand up to the N.R.A. & gun lobbyists, but sadly Governor Greg Abbott can't do that. Furthermore, I'd like to point out that our last 3 Governors were Greg Abbott, Rick Perry, & George W. Bush, whom have been the 3 Stooges of Republican state "leadership." Here's hoping that Beto O'Rourke wins the Governor's race against Abbott in November. And this is very likely given how close the margin between the 2 of them is with Abbott's approval rating continuing to fall after Uvalde.
I often joke that Conservatives can't read past the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, but it turns out they can't even read halfway through the 2nd Amendment conveniently ignoring the "well-regulated militia" part.

The US is not alone, most third world countries face gun violence problems.
Hunter got kicked out of the Navy for Cocaine and still was able to buy a gun with a dishonorable discharge. Even got a Top Secret security clearance and got contracts to run BioWeapons Labs. The background check system is only for the peasants
Couple changes that need to happen:
– Increase three days to at least a few months
– It should be mandatory to send EVERYTHING. Criminal records, mental health, suspicious activity etc etc
– Not sending any one of those should be punisheable with a hefty fine or being fired.
– Thorough psychological evaluation. Written and spoken
– If the person has bought a gun before it MUST be registred and regulated („Well regulated militia“ to remind y‘all).
– Ask openly what this person wants to do with this gun (a bit difficult since he can lie).
– Make this person prove that he is part of some kind of organisation that deals with firearms (police, Firearms instructor, sport shooting, three gun competitor, gun collector for a certain time period etc)
