Harrison Ford has sparked much conversation over reprising his iconic Indiana Jones role for the ultimate time at 80 years old — but he’ll be looking loads younger.
The fifth installment of the “Indiana Jones” franchise will open in 1944 — eight years after the events in 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
4 a long time have past since Ford first played the legendary adventurer, and the octogenarian doesn’t exactly look similar to he did way back when — but moviegoers will still get to see Indiana Jones in his prime.
Moviegoers will see a “de-aged” Ford because of visual effects and ILM software, in response to an upcoming issue of Empire Magazine.
Using the pc software, old footage of Ford from previous movies was matched and imposed onto latest footage shot for the troubled production, which has survived several Ford stunt injuries and the death of 1 crew member.
“My hope is that, although it is going to be talked about by way of technology, you simply watch it and go, ‘Oh my God, they simply found footage. This was a thing they shot 40 years ago,’” producer Kathleen Kennedy told Empire.
“We’re dropping you into an adventure, something Indy is on the lookout for, and immediately you’ve that feeling, ‘I’m in an Indiana Jones movie.’”
The technology is simply utilized in the opening sequence of the movie, which has Indiana Jones going up against Nazis in a castle.
“Then we fall out, and you end up in 1969,” director James Mangold said. “In order that the audience doesn’t experience the change between the ‘40s and ‘60s as an mental conceit, but literally experiences the buccaneering spirit of those early days… after which the start of now.”
“I wanted the prospect to dive into this type of full-on George-and-Steven old picture and provides the audience an adrenaline blast,” Mangold, who’s taking up filmmaking duties from Steven Spielberg, explained.
Ford admitted that seeing a younger version of himself was “a bit spooky.”
“That is the primary time I’ve seen it where I think it… I don’t think I even need to know the way it really works,” he said. “It doesn’t make me need to be young, though. I’m glad to have earned my age.”
The unique jacket Ford wore in “Raiders” was also pulled out from storage and replicated for the upcoming film.
Though the opening of the film is ready in 1944, the majority of “Indiana Jones 5” takes place in 1969 — with Ford as his current 80-year-old self — and is ready against the space run.
“Indiana Jones 5” is ready to be released in theaters June 30, 2023. It comes 15 years after the last film of the franchise, 2008’s “The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”
