ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday said that it is clear that a vote recount cannot be conducted today as it heard PTI’s plea against the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) verdict ordering a recount of the votes cast for the election of the Punjab chief minister.
The observation was made by Justice Ijazul Ahsan, one of the three judges hearing the case. The other two are Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, who is heading the bench, and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail.
During the hearing, Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi and Chief Minister Punjab Hamza Shahbaz were summoned for their input.
The chief justice noted that it “not a matter of egos” and is one that involves the country’s welfare.
The advocate general for Punjab was directed to inform the speaker about the court’s directives.
The hearing was adjourned for 30 minutes.
