“Grey’s Anatomy” star Caterina Scorsone revealed that she and her three kids escaped a house fire that took the lives of their 4 pets.
Scorsone, 41, who portrays Amelia Shepherd within the long-running medical drama, posted a carousel of photos to Instagram on Monday, the primary of which shows destruction to a living area that incorporates a fireplace.
The others capture sweet moments between Scorsone and her animals, which seemingly include three cats and a dog.
“A few months ago my house burned down,” Scorsone claimed within the lengthy caption. “While getting my kids ready for bed and ending bath time, smoke began to seep up through the grout across the tub. Once I looked down the hallway a river of thick black smoke had already formed and was filling the home.”
Scorsone shares three daughters along with her ex-husband, musician and author Rob Giles, 49, who divorced in 2020: Eliza, 10, Paloma ‘Pippa’ Michaela, 6, and Arwen ‘Lucky’ Lucinda, 3.
“One thing about fires: they occur fast. I had about two minutes to get my three kids out of the home, and we escaped with lower than shoes on our feet. But we got out. And for that I’m eternally grateful,” she wrote.
“Heartbreakingly, we lost all 4 of our pets. We’re still sitting with that loss, but we’re lucky we got to like them in any respect.”
Scorsone continued the “love letter” to thank the community of folks that helped her when the devastation hit, including her neighbor, parents at her kids’ school, firefighters, and investigators, in addition to her “friends” at “Grey’s Anatomy” and series creator Shonda Rhimes’ production company, Shondaland.
“What we learned is that the one thing that matters are the people (and beings) that you just love. The one thing that matters is community. We’d not be here without it and we’re so grateful. Thanks.”
“Listed here are some photos to honor the space we once called home, to say goodbye to the animals that loved us so well, and to have a good time that we now have the one thing we ever really needed: one another,” Scorsone concluded.
