“Gran Turismo” has lapped the competition on the box office.
The car-racing drama, which is predicated on the video game series, took home $8.5 million on Friday, the day after its release, based on IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.
The flick, which CNN said “moves, mockingly, too slow to deliver as a big-screen attraction,” tells the true story of Jann Mardenborough, a teenage Gran Turismo player who became knowledgeable race automobile driver.
“Barbie,” which is now officially the highest-grossing movie of the yr in North America, remained in second place, with $4 million in sales.
She beat out “Blue Beetle,” which earned $2.6 million and landed in third place.

“Oppenheimer” remained in fourth position, with a $2.25 million take.
The World War II biopic became director Christopher Nolan’s third highest earning movie domestically, based on Collider.
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” stayed in fifth place, with earnings of $1.53 million.
