Observations from Friday’s Giants practice.
Slay’er
It was a giant afternoon for Darius Slayton.
He caught several passes, including the play of the day: A full-speed full-extension outstretched catch of a pinpoint deep pass from Daniel Jones.
Slayton got just one step on rookie CB Deonte Banks, but that was all he needed.
Hole-y hell
On the primary play of the team period, Jones faked a handoff and took off on a quarterback keeper straight up the gut of the defense, showing off his speed as he sprinted in for the straightforward touchdown.
Given Jones’ running ability, the defense seemed quite unprepared for this play.
Caught my eye
During a pass-rush drill, the surface linebackers went down in a three-point stance, weaved through and hit three blue bags before curling back and making successful and strip of the red “quarterback’’ bag.
Newly signed Tashawn Bower didn’t exactly line up in the proper spot and Kayvon Thibodeaux immediately went over to alert Bower where to go.
Good teammate.
Injury report
WR Cole Beasley took a knee to the quad on Thursday and was held out of shape on Friday. Rookie S Gervarrius Owens (soreness) remained out.
Head coach Brian Daboll said DT Rakeem Nunez-Roches, out with a concussion after a automotive accident, is making progress.
