BERLIN (Reuters) – German firms abroad remain mostly optimistic about business in the approaching months despite nearly half of them expecting an economic downturn, based on a survey.
Nearly 40% of the businesses expect higher business in the approaching 12 months while 42% see the present situation as unchanged, based on the AHK World Business Outlook, a survey of three,100 German firms lively abroad, that was published on Thursday.
While firms are feeling the strained global economy, “depending on their respective international markets … they find stable, if not even advantageous conditions, which in turn give confidence,” said Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) head of foreign trade Volker Treier.
That compares with only 8% of firms in Germany saying they expect higher business, while 52% saying they expect it to change into worse, based on the DIHK’s autumn survey.
