Tyler Christopher, the actor best known for his Emmy-nominated role on “General Hospital” has died. He was 50.
His “GH” co-star Maurice Benard confirmed his death Tuesday on Instagram.
“It’s with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher,” Benard wrote. “Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment.”
“Tyler was a very talented person that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting. Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those that knew him.”
He added, “Tyler was an advocate for higher mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We’re beyond devastated by the lack of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father.”
Christopher’s rep Chi Muoi Lo also confirmed the actor’s death to The Post.
“I can confirm that Tyler Christopher has passed away this morning,” they wrote within the statement. “This news was incredibly shocking, and I’m devastated by his loss. He was a really gifted actor, and more importantly, a tremendous friend. My heart goes out to his family and friends who loved him a lot.”
Christopher portrayed each Nikolas Cassadine from 1996 to 2016, in addition to Connor Bishop from 2004 to 2005 on ABC’s “General Hospital.”
In 2016, Christopher won the Daytime Emmy for his performance as Nikolas, and he previously earned 4 nominations.
A 12 months later, he joined NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” as Stefan DiMera, for which he scored a Daytime Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actor in a drama series.
He left the series in 2019 and was recast with Brandon Barash.
Also in 2019, Christopher was arrested and charged with public intoxication in Indiana.
Christopher was married to Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004.
He married auto racing reporter Brienne Pedigo in 2008 until their divorce was finalized in 2021.
He’s survived by his two kids with Pedigo, a son Greyson James born in 2009, and a lady, Boheme born in 2015.
