A latest college basketball tournament will enter the postseason landscape in 2025.
The three way partnership between Fox Sports and AEG called the College Basketball Crown will launch next yr and have 16 teams that failed to achieve the NCAA Tournament.
The inaugural tournament will happen in Las Vegas with MGM Grand Garden Arena and T-Mobile Arena serving because the host sites, and two teams from the Big Ten, Big 12 and Big East receiving automatic bids.
The remaining of the sector can be filled out with at-large bids chosen by a committee.
“We’re honored to take part in the inaugural College Basketball Crown, which can be an exciting and modern addition to the school basketball calendar,” Big East Commissioner Val Ackerman said in an announcement. “We’re confident that the formidable capabilities of FOX Sports, AEG, and their event partners will translate right into a high-quality post-season opportunity for our coaches, players and schools.”
College Basketball Crown games can be aired on Fox and FS1.
The brand new postseason tournament will rival the National Invitation Tournament, which had several notable schools – including St. John’s – decline participation on this yr’s event.
The NCAA runs the NIT and had modified the choice process to incorporate more teams from power-six conferences.
The 32-team tournament is college basketball’s oldest and had been a longstanding tradition at Madison Square Garden from 1938 to 2019.
“Postseason college basketball is probably the most exciting times of yr and FOX Sports is proud to be on the forefront of efforts to evolve and elevate the game,” Executive Vice President, FOX Sports Jordan Bazant said in an announcement. “Alongside AEG and the Big Ten, Big 12 and BIG EAST, we’re thrilled to supply more opportunities for student-athletes to compete in top quality postseason college hoops and for viewers to benefit from the chase for the College Basketball Crown.”
