It's very uncomfortable how much the US intervenes with markets when its interests are on the line; even if it was temporarily, it's clear this is a regular strategy used to prevent other countries from rising above with their economies; then was Japan, now it's China's turn with Huawei, ASML bans, etc. At least be more honest and drop the "free market" ideology charade.
Oh, and also very ironic how US semiconductor industries "learned" from their good friends from Japan.. but if certain Asian countries "learn" from west enterprises, we call that "stealing" and "copying". The double standard is mind-blowing.
In the coming decades, the Chinese mainland will easily create an atmosphere of unreliability and unviability as a link of the supply chain on Taiwan. Taiwan's energy insecurity will eventually erode business confidence on Taiwan, driving away investments. The Chinese mainland will rather easily with impunity create tremendous energy insecurity on Taiwan.
By 2040, as long as a war has not started, the US will be militarily paralyzed into inaction. In 2022, even when a war has already started and tens of thousands have died, the US dares not escalate militarily against Russia, a tenth of China's size; just imagine 2042,2052 against China when a war has not even started.
Basically, the more Taiwan struggles, the more it advertises it future unreliability or unviability. Politically, Taiwan is completely hopeless. The Chinese mainland will corrupt Taiwan's economy by easily creating tremendous energy insecurity on Taiwan. It will be just a matter of time, though not imminent.
The US certainly sees the writing on the wall. The US is seeking to hollow out Taiwan's semiconductor industry, as the US sees Taiwan as increasingly unreliable due to increasing threats from the mainland. Other industrialists will follow US lead. Increasingly, Taiwan will need formalized peace, as haphazard peace will no longer satisfy the global industrialists.
Greater and greater threats without execution, targeting Taiwan's abjectly vulnerably energy supply, simply wins for the Chinese mainland. There will not even focus to counter such insidious threat, as Taiwan gradually slips into economic malaise, rejected as a link in the global supply chain. No real blockade will be necessary, let alone war.
The Taiwan Strait remains peaceful, as Taiwan's fate as a niche within China is already sealed. There will be no meaningful struggle.
If China attacked Taiwan and they had the only chips, then the US is screwed. What happens to missiles, javelins (most have been sent to Ukraine smh), etc.? No damn chance. America is falling.
