Just call him the phone collector.
In a video on Monday, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, 46, took to Twitter to blast a person who gave the impression to be talking on speakerphone within the airport near him.
“So, I’m flying business because Elio bankrupted me and I gotta be honest, I don’t get people like this,” Portnoy said as he panned his phone camera to a person sitting behind him who was blasting the opposite end of his conversation.
“Who puts their buddy on speaker like this?” Portnoy asked. “It’s crazy. Does he even hear me talkin’ about him? Just take it off speaker, put it in your phone. It’s basic human decency.”
He continued to pan across the camera to point out the person’s backside, after which quoted a fictional “Seinfeld” character
“As George Costanza said, ‘We’re living in a society,’” Portnoy said. “Is not sensible!”
Within the caption of his Tweet, Portnoy wrote, “WERE LIVING IN A SOCIETY! Don’t talk on speaker phone in a crowded public space.”
Portnoy also posted the identical clip to his Instagram stories on Monday.
The Post reached out to Portnoy for comment.
In response to his Tweet, which has garnered greater than 1.1 million views, some users were split over what might be considered the “correct” speakerphone etiquette in public.
“Amen! I cannot understand this phenomenon,” one Twitter user wrote in response. “Why would anyone think the entire world is occupied with their random convo. Super annoying.”
“I feel like anytime someone does this, or listens to music without headphones it’s further evidence we reside in probably the most self-centered time to be alive,” one other added.
Someone else agreed, writing, “100%. 10x worse once they do it going through the checkout line.”
Nevertheless, others called out Portnoy for seemingly doing the identical thing in a public space.
“Guy in camo records himself talking to his phone a couple of guy talking on his phone… is mindless loser,” a user wrote.
One person identified, “If he’s like me, he can’t hear the regular private call. Some people have hearing problems and a speaker phone is louder. I might have headphones if I where him if that’s his issue.”
“And also you’re talking loud to yourself recording the back of somebody’s head now you each appear to be goofballs,” one other tweeted, to which Portnoy replied that he was doing this for “the little guy.”
“You only want me to take a seat idly by while against the law is committed?” he wrote in response. “I’m not doing it for me or to create content. I’m doing it for the little guy who doesn’t have a platform to talk out. For Little Johnny who doesn’t need to hear a full on convo in his ear. I needs to be hailed as a hero.”
Nevertheless, Portnoy isn’t the just one who has sparked debate over airplane and airport etiquette in recent months.
Last month, a Reddit user begged for there to be “child-free” airports.
“Stuck at an airport, with over an hour delay, knowing I’m going to be missing transport home and need to get a taxi is bad,” the user wrote.
“But having to listen to the multiple kids which can be extra drained, definitely makes it 100 times worse.”
And, earlier this month, a TikToker sparked debate after sharing an “unethical hack” to do when the person in front of you reclines their seat too far back.
They suggested blasting the air-con on them, which divided viewers.
