Danny Masterson’s wife, Bijou Phillips, has reportedly filed for divorce lower than two weeks after the “That ’70s Show” star was sentenced to 30 years in prison for 2 rapes he committed in 2003.
In accordance with legal docs obtained by TMZ, Phillips filed to finish their marriage in a California court on Monday.
“Ms. Phillips has decided to file for divorce from her husband during this unlucky time. Her priority stays along with her daughter,” her attorney, Peter A. Lauzon, told the outlet in a press release.
“This era has been unimaginably hard on the wedding and the family. Mr. Masterson was all the time present for Ms. Phillips during her most difficult times of her life. Ms. Phillips acknowledges that Mr. Masterson is an excellent father to their daughter.”
The couple share a 9-year-old daughter, Fianna Francis.
“Our daughter and I are heartbroken that he is just not home with us,” Phillips wrote to the judge in a pre-sentencing support letter. “It has been very difficult without him here. Though he’s now in jail, he calls her daily. He helps her with homework every night. He teaches her math with kindness and patience.”
“We’d like him greater than you’ll be able to imagine,” she continued. “I do know he has been convicted of great crimes. However the man I married has only been a unprecedented husband to me and a loyal father to our daughter.”
They former couple met in 2004, got engaged in 2009, and married in October 2011.
The Post has contacted reps for Masterson and Phillips for comment.
Phillips stood by Masterson throughout his recent trial and was visibly distraught and sobbed because the conviction was read in court in May.
Just last week, an insider told Those that a “distraught” Phillips still had no intention of divorcing Masterson.
“She has had a really difficult time because the conviction,” the source claimed “She loves Danny and has no plans to file for divorce. She shall be by his side for all of it.”
The daughter of musician John Phillips, the lead vocalist of the Mamas & the Papas, and actress Geneviève Waïte was apparently “surrounded by family and friends” and attempting to stay positive and in good spirits during this difficult time.
