This might be a special form of shotgun wedding.
A Nebraska man proposed to his girlfriend moments after she shot and killed a once-in-a-lifetime buck during a hunting trip this month.
Because the couple posed for skilled photos with their prized deer, boyfriend Cole Bures dropped to at least one knee to ask his girlfriend Samantha Camenzind to marry him.
“It was perfect, but I still didn’t expect it,” she told the Omaha World-Herald.
“It’s something we each like to do. I suppose I couldn’t imagine it going another way.”
Throughout the recent hunting trip, the lovebirds spotted a deer on a trail camera south of Lincoln and went to pursue the unsuspecting animal.
Bures, 32, encouraged Camenzind, 28, to take the primary shot.
She bagged the enormous buck with 11 tines on one side of its antlers and nine on the opposite side.
“Everybody has been saying they might marry him, too, if he allow them to shoot this big of a deer,” Camenzind told the newspaper.
“I used to be just as excited as she was when she got it,” Bures added.
The pair have been dating for 3 years and bonded over their love of hunting. They each come from families who hunt and eat every little thing they kill.
After the deer was shot, Bures suggested he call an expert photographer to capture the massive moment. As photos were being snapped, he got down on a knee and popped the query.
“I don’t know in the event that they were more shocked we got engaged or [by] the scale of the deer,” Camenzind said of her family members after they saw the photos.
Bures got the concept from a friend who made an identical proposal during a hunting trip in Alaska.
The 2 have yet to select a marriage date, though they’re aiming for next fall.
“Not during hunting season, though,” she said.
