C.J. Stroud might be the Houston Texans’ starting quarterback on opening day after they face the Baltimore Ravens.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans made the choice on Sunday night, in response to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Stroud was the No. 2-overall pick on this 12 months’s NFL draft.
“It’s been over the course of your entire means of OTAs, training camp, preseason games,” Ryans told reporters on Sunday. “Just seeing the whole product and knowing C.J.’s desire to proceed to get well.”
While the news was made official on Sunday, it was nothing greater than a formality of what was expected to be his job.
The Texans had actually used him throughout the preseason as if he can be their starter once the regular season began.
Stroud played just two series during Houston’s preseason finale against the Saints on Sunday.
He went 2-for-4 for 16 yards and a 100.0 passer rating.
The Ohio State product even threw his first touchdown pass of the preseason.
It got here in the primary quarter on a three-yard pass to Nico Collins in the long run zone.
Stroud finished the preseason completing 11 of 20 passes for 89 yards.
He also had one interception in that span as well.
The Texans open the regular season in Baltimore on Sept. 10.
“We all know we’re not where we must be as a team overall,” Ryans said. “All of us need to proceed to get well. It’s just having the mindset to do this. CJ is just together with all our other guys who know we’ve got to get well.”
