Cher didn’t “Imagine” she and her boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards would find a way to have a successful romantic relationship when she met the singer, who’s 40 years her junior, at Paris Fashion Week in 2022.
“Well, you realize, it was really really weird, because I wasn’t in search of it really,” the 77-year-old icon told The Post.
“And we met because my friend kept nudging me to go ask him about his teeth,” she said of Edwards’ blinged-out smile.
“So I’m this beautiful guy with white hair, tatted up and with these teeth. And so I said, ‘Dude, I like your grill.’ And, he went, ‘No, they’re my teeth.’ And so we just talked for a second. After which I saw him again — he was with T [Tyga] on the Ann Demeulemeester show — after which we were all standing together in an image.”
Cher continued, “So he asked my friend to send me this picture of us. After which my friend said, ‘No, send it to her yourself.’ And so he texts me, and I used to be in Switzerland. I just visited Tina [Turner], and I used to be gonna be there for a few weeks. So we just began texting.”
The “Strong Enough” singer said she was stunned when her friend provided Edwards, 37, together with her number “because people just don’t give out my number,” she said.
But as she told The Post, “My girlfriend had just been with this guy, and he left, they usually broke up, and he or she was brokenhearted. And I said, ‘There’s two stuff you cannot do now at our age: You can’t date a much younger man. And you possibly can’t fall in love by text, since it’s bulls–t.’ “
She continued: “So then I meet Alexander, and I kept saying, ‘Dude, this shouldn’t be gonna work out. I’m telling you, it’s not gonna go good. It’s just not gonna work.’ And he just wasn’t going for it.”
Although the pair have been capable of exceed Cher’s expectations, she admitted last month that Edwards doesn’t all the time understand her dated references.
“Sometimes I’m talking to him and he has no idea who I’m talking about … The opposite day, I said, ‘Do you realize who, I don’t know, Clark Gable, [is]?’ Any person said, ‘Yes, after all,’ but most of my references … He’ll take a look at me and go, ‘I wasn’t born yet,’ ” Cher told “Extra.”
