Fellow celebrities are remembering the five-time Tony-winning actress Angela Lansbury, who died in her sleep on Tuesday at age 96.
“Seinfeld” star Jason Alexander was among the many mourners, tweeting out a message of sorrow: “The good Angela Lansbury – some of the versatile, talented, graceful, kind, witty, clever, classy ladies I’ve ever met has left us,” he wrote. “Her huge contribution to the humanities and the world stays at all times.”
Comedian and thespian Mario Cantone also responded with a photograph of him and Lansbury, writing, “she was an excellent one.”
“Rest In Peace Great Dame Angela Lansbury,” he added.
Playwright and screenwriter Harvey Fierstein also shared a photographic memory, declaring, “She, my darlings, was EVERYTHING!”
“Star Trek” and “Mulan” alum George Takei added, “Angela Lansbury, who graced the stage for a long time winning five Tony awards and brought the sleuthing Jessica Fletcher into our living rooms for a dozen years, has passed.”
“A tale old as time, our beloved Mrs. Potts will sing lullabies to us now from the celebs. Rest, great soul,” he wrote. “Lansbury A remarkable talent… She started off as an ingenue in movies like #Gaslight then became a TV star with #MurderSheWrote A really long profession where she kept reinventing herself.”‘
Lansbury’s kids said in a press release Tuesday that a personal family ceremony will occur at a later date.
“The youngsters of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30am, today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday. Along with her three children, Anthony, Deirdre, and David, she is survived by three grandchildren, Peter, Katherine and Ian, plus five great grandchildren and her brother, producer Edgar Lansbury. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 53 years, Peter Shaw. A personal family ceremony can be held at a date to be determined.”
