NFL free agent quarterback Carson Wentz sparked an immense backlash as he posed next to a dead black bear during his hunting trip in Alaska.
The previous Super Bowl-winning quarterback said he accomplished a “bucket list” item when he hunted a black bear with a bow and arrow.
“Got the chance to identify and stalk black bear in certainly one of our latest favorite places on earth— Alaska!” Wentz posted to the Wentz Bros Outdoors Instagram account he shares along with his brother Zach.
“Incredible trip and an incredible animal,” the brothers added.
The Wentz brothers aren’t hunting rookies, sharing a few of their kills to the Instagram account which features geese, bucks, and turkeys.
Black bear hunting is legal in Alaska, so long as the state’s hunting regulations are followed.
While Wentz, 30, who last saw motion within the Commanders’ Week 17 loss to the Browns, was pleased along with his kill, not everyone was glad with the previous Eagle.
“Hope next time (the) bear wins and also you lay down,” one Instagram commenter said.
Incredible animal so that you kill it?? Is smart,” one other user said.
“That’s just awful! I can’t consider you killed a bear for sport. Modified my whole perspective of you,” a 3rd person added.
“We all know your football profession is over, so you’ve got to do one other thing for a living. But this will not be the best way! Respect the animals, the character. It’s not in your fun.”
“Killing for fun. Glad the Eagles dumped you. Concentrate on recovering at throwing the ball than your “bucket list,” one other commenter said.
Not everyone was against the hunt as Wentz’s quarterback counterparts applauded the brothers.
“Holy s–t man! Need a taste of em,” former Commander’s teammate Taylor Heinicke said.
“Well done. Congrats,” former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler added.
Wentz was released by Washington in February and since has been studying film with Jon Gruden in hopes of one other NFL comeback.
In the course of the 2022 season, Wentz appeared in eight games, starting seven the fewest of his profession, because the Commanders selected to start out Heinicke after Wentz struggled, threw for 1,755 passing yards and 11 touchdowns.
Wentz isn’t the one former Super Bowl champ to take down an enormous anima as ex-Bronco defensive end Derek Wolfe killed a mountain lion in January that was “wreaking havoc in a rural neighborhood.”
Wolfe was called upon to stalk the “giant tom” (male mountain lion) and after taking down the large cat, had the meat processed and ate it.
