Brits are said to be “rejoicing” over Meghan Markle declining an invite to King Charles III’s upcoming coronation.
A palace spokesperson confirmed that while Prince Harry will attend the May 6 event, Markle will stay behind of their expansive mansion in California.
The ceremony falls on the birthday of the couple’s son, Archie, who is popping 4. It’s rumored that the conflicting schedule is the duchess’ reasoning for not traveling to London.
Speaking Friday on Sky News, author Sophie Elsworth took a jab at Markle, arguing she is “obsessive about being within the media” and “dominating headlines.”
“I can’t consider that woman just isn’t going because she’s obsessive about herself,” Elsworth said, claiming Brits are “rejoicing” that the previous “Suits” actress might be “staying well away” from the festivities.
Elsworth said it’s a “good decision” that Markle, 41, just isn’t attending, considering how Londoners “despised” the pair on the Queen’s Jubilee last yr.
The coronation comes months after the publication of the Duke of Sussex’s bombshell memoir “Spare” and the premiere of the couple’s unflattering Netflix docuseries.
Markle and Harry, 38, reportedly inked a $100 million cope with the streaming giant for his or her six-episode show, while “Spare” became the fastest selling nonfiction book of all time.
“This guy’s done immense damage to the royal family and makes a fortune out of doing it,” Elsworth said of Harry.
“So shame on him, but hopefully he behaves himself on the coronation.”
The Day by day Mail quoted unidentified sources claiming the royal family has “no interest” in conversing with Prince Harry on the coronation within the wake of the couple’s departure from royal life and move to the US in 2020.
Elsworth’s remarks echo insider reports from the palace — namely, that Kate Middleton is “relieved” by her sister-in-law’s expected absence.
An unidentified source reported Middleton, 41, would have been “uncomfortable” by the duchess’ presence.
Tom Bower, a royal biographer, claimed Middleton “wouldn’t have her there under any circumstances,” effectively barring Markle from accepting the invite.
Her selection to remain within the Golden State was slammed by royal watchers who crowned her a “martyr” — with Meghan McCain knocking Markle for “chickening out.”
For the king’s part, it’s been reported he’s “disenchanted” Markle won’t be on the celebration.
“It is gloomy, he may be very disenchanted that he won’t see Meghan or his grandchildren but understands the situation,” a source previously claimed.
The invitation limbo got here to an end this week when a Buckingham palace spokesperson confirmed Harry and Meghan’s plans.
“Buckingham Palace is pleased to verify that the Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation service at Westminster Abbey on May 6,” a spokesperson said.
“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
Markle won’t be the just one missing the festivities.
Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York and ex-wife of Prince Andrew, was royally snubbed.
She seemed in good spirits speaking with Hello! Magazine this week, claiming she never “expected” an invitation and as an alternative might be “having somewhat tea room and coronation chicken sandwich.”
Elsworth thought it to be a “bit rough” the 63-year-old writer won’t be present for the coronation.
“People love Fergie. I believe she’s a little bit of a personality of the royal family,” she said, arguing Ferguson, who goes by Fergie, “made headlines for all of the incorrect reasons.”
“I believe people would much somewhat her get an invitation than Meghan Markle, but you recognize that’s as much as them of who they determine and clearly she’s not on the list,” she added.
