Pastor Michael Jennings is suing an Alabama police department after he said he was unlawfully arrested while watering his neighbor’s flowers.

A Black pastor in Alabama says police unlawfully arrested him in May 2022 while he was watering his neighbor’s flowers. Attorneys for Michael Jennings, a longtime pastor at Vision of Abundant Life Church in Sylacauga, Alabama, have released police body cam video of his arrest and say legal action against the Childersburg Police Department is forthcoming.
“This video makes it clear that these officers decided they were going to arrest Pastor Jennings less than five minutes after pulling up and then tried to rewrite history claiming he hadn’t identified himself when that was the first thing he did,” said Harry Daniels, an Atlanta attorney representing Jennings, in a statement. “This was not only an unlawful arrest. It’s kidnapping.”
Childersburg police arrested Jennings on May 22 and charged him with obstructing government operations, according to a criminal complaint. A municipal judge dismissed the case in June, according to court documents provided to USA TODAY by Jennings’ attorneys. The arrest and charge were “irrational, irresponsible and illegal,” Daniels said in the statement.

He refused to be run for warrants. He was not engaged in criminal activity. Must all black people be run for warrants? These cops didn't identify and they were committing aggravated criminal trespass.

Guess what, when you're arrogant, belligerent, defiant, refuse to give identification and then challenge the Cops to arrest you, you get arrested. The Cops were called about a suspicious man, the Cops didn't know who he was, he admits he's on someone else's property, so what do you think is going to happen? They just made a HUGE mistake. Attorney Roderick Van Daniel is on this case. Pastor Jennings did not need to identify himself because he was not in a public place. Period. They could have apologized and let him go. The problem here is how they handled it. I don't care what anyone says, they could have asked a couple simple questions to get their answer and left it alone. The problem people don't see is that they are racist and completely unaware of it. Why did the woman call in the first place? Why did the police ask for ID? Exactly. This is not protecting and serving the community. Call it what it is people. Cops are too afraid to bust sex and arms traffickers, king pens, drug dealers and bandos but they will waste half a pay day on this nonsense.
