He’s deNighying the romance rumors.
Bill Nighy set the record straight on his and Anna Wintour’s Met Gala debut as a pair, saying in an announcement that he and the Vogue editor-in-chief have a platonic relationship.
“Bill and Anna have simply been great friends for 20 years,” the “Love Actually” star’s rep told Page Six Monday.
“They should not in a relationship.”
The duo arrived together at Wintour’s big night and walked the red carpet arm-in-arm, prompting viewers to take a position that the fashionable fund-raiser was their big debut.
Each Nighy and Wintour had attended previous Met Galas solo.
The Post even heard that Wintour’s closest friends were “thrilled for them to be making it official on the Met.”
Apparently, they were only firming up their friendship — depending on whom you suspect.
The alleged non-couple sparked romance rumors in 2018 after they were spotted taking in two plays together, but even then the “Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” actor shut down any hearsay.
The brand new couple, who’re each Brits, also set tongues wagging last December after they were spotted together at a Latest York screening of Nighy’s Oscar-nominated film, “Living.”
However the friendship appeared to take a romantic turn three years ago after they dined together, and eyewitnesses told The Post that Wintour, 73, was “beaming” the entire night.
“She looked pleased and in superb company. She was beautifully made-up and he or she was smiling a lot — she had her sunglasses off your entire time!” the source said of the 2020 sighting.
“They were sitting together in a corner having fun with a frothy coffee.”
Wintour’s decision to debut her alleged relationship with Nighy on the Met Gala was rumored to carry special meaning for the magazine maven, who has chaired or co-chaired the famed fashion event since 1995.
This 12 months’s Met Gala theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” honored the late German designer who was the creative director of Chanel until his death in 2019.
Nighy, 73, split from his long-term love, actress Diana Quick, in 2008. They’ve one daughter, Mary Nighy.
Wintour was married to David Shaffer from 1984 to 1999. The previous couple have 35-year-old daughter Bee and 37-year-old son Charlie.
She then married Shelby Bryan in 2004 but divorced in 2020.
