The retailer framed the job cuts as a shift in its priorities, saying Best Buy plans so as to add hundreds of customer-facing employees and put money into growing areas, akin to its Totaltech membership program and its health business.
As of the tip of January, Best Buy had greater than 90,000 employees within the U.S. and Canada. That is a drop from the nearly 125,000 employees that it had in early 2020, in response to company financial filings.
