A dream honeymoon was a nightmare for one couple after a one-punch attack left a dad with severe head trauma in hospital.
Andreas Lehr and his wife Kanisha decided to travel to Perth after their wedding to rejoice their nuptials, leaving their two children at home.
They went to see Luke Combs in concert when Andreas was brutally attacked by a stranger because the couple left the RAC Arena in Perth.
“Everyone was type of shoulder to shoulder. Andreas put his hand out to shake this fella’s hand and asked him if he was okay, and he’s turned around and king hit him and Andreas has fallen to the bottom,” Kanisha told 9News.
Andreas is spending his seventh night in Royal Perth Hospital with severe head trauma and a bleed on the brain.
Strangers, including an off duty nurse rushed to Andreas’ aid, which Kanisha says most likely saved his life.
“We’re super grateful for those those who were around to assist him when he needed it essentially the most and clearly to the entire staff here which can be doing their best – everyone who helps us get home to our youngsters,” Kanisha said.
“He’s not doing thoroughly in the mean time but every day is recovering.
“It’s the unknown that’s so scary, we don’t understand how long it’s going to take.”
“Getting home to my kids is top of the list [for Andreas], I hear it on a regular basis.”
The family have arrange a GoFundMe page to assist with Andreas’ medical expenses.
A 23-year-old man has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.
