It has been 40 years since we first got to experience the magic of Christmas through the blue eyes of Raphie Parker. When it was released on November 18, 1983, it only had a moderate amount of success. Critics claimed that on the time, holiday-type movies just weren’t the thing viewers wanted on the time. It won awards in Canada, but by Christmas in America, it had already left the theaters.
Fast forward to the last 20 years, and the film has turn into a Christmas cult classic even being aired for twenty-four hours on TNT which has turn into a practice. The truth is, that is the only channel we’d watch once I was growing up once the marathon began. Quite truthfully, I believe I actually have only seen the unique movie a hand filled with times sitting and watching all of it of the way in which through. The remaining of the time, it’s me just stopping to observe different sections of it as I’m going on with the day.
Now, here we’re 40 years later, and we’re introduced to an actual sequel. I say that is an actual sequel despite there having been other movies made with the identical idea of characters from the unique, but they never got here near hitting the mark of the primary. Truthfully, we will consider those other movies to be similar to the all-female solid of Ghostbusters.
Firstly, we actually get to see the unique characters come back! That is exciting in itself! The truth is, you get a lot of the gang back together: Ralphie, Flick, Randy, Schwartz, Grover, and even Scut Farcus along with his yellow eyes! They never were yellow by the way in which, but I swear they were. The unique solid makes their return to play with our nostalgic heartstrings!
We see the movie begin with Raphie as an adult, a husband, and a dad of two kids. He’s attempting to turn into a author. As Christmas approaches, he gets news that the old man has passed and takes the family home to have a good time Christmas along with his mother of their old house. That is when the trip down memory lane starts with fans of the movie. The truth is, there are many Easter eggs throughout the movie from various phrases, moves, and cinematic shots that may make you remember cues from the old movie. We get to see the famous Higbees, Santa on the enormous snow mountain, a double-dog dare, and we get surprised as Scutt isn’t any longer a bully, but his kids appear to be!
Can this latest movie hold a candle to the unique? No, I do not think so. Nonetheless, this movie can definitely ride the unique movie’s coattails all it wants. Personally, I actually have already seen it twice because it was released yesterday. I actually have cried more times than I care to even admit towards the top as well. That is definitely one that may take you back down memory lane and needs to be watched right after you finish the primary one as a sequel that hopefully will stick around so long as the primary one has.
